  how it started?  

Alumni-led initiative born from lived experience.

in//border is an alumni-led and founded initiative born from the experience of growing up at the borderlands and one which aims to bring the attention that the border region deserves by providing resources and a meaningful mentorship platform to those studying architecture in El Paso, TX.

  why is important?  

We are filling a void.

in//border as the initiative serves as a bridge between

TTU HCOA – El Paso and El Paso Community College [EPCC] to help architecture students at the borderlands with additional resources and tools for a smoother transition into these institutions.

Through generational collaboration.

in//border  is committed to providing a mentorship platform for architecture students in El Paso. Participating students will advance in their educational and professional design careers through support from Texas Tech College of Architecture (TTU CoA) El Paso and El Paso Community College (EPCC) alumni.

During this one-hour virtual event, potential mentors would learn more about the mentorship program and helpful tips for a successful mentorship experience.

TTU HCOA - El Paso

During this two-hour hybrid event, we will introduce the in//border mentorship program, talk about helpful tips for a successful mentorship relationship. Mentors' will give a brief introduction presentation of themselves. 

Following the event, potential mentees, who hadn't done already, will fill out a survey, which will inform the mentees/mentor pairings.

PROCESS

The participating in//border mentors/mentees will fill out a  survey to provide  feedback, voice their experiences, and confirm their participation in the spring term. 

Preparation

Registration for potential mentors/mentees is open.

 

 Follow up instructions will be sent to the selected mentors.

registration opens March 29th and closes on June 7th at midnight MT

The participating in//border mentors and mentees will attend the wrap-up event to provide feedback and voice their experiences.

SPRING SEMESTER 

The mentor and mentee will continue to meet regularly in accordance with the agreed-upon schedule. 

Mentees who registered to participate in the mentorship program during the Fall and would like to continue their mentorship during the spring semester will be paired with the same mentor.      

The minimum frequency is one virtual/in-person meeting per month.

FALL SEMESTER PROGRAM DURATION

Mentorship

A week after the kick-off event, in//border will initiate contact  with the mentor/mentee via email introducing the pairings.

Mentees would be encouraged to introduce themselves to their mentor via email, as well as, plan their first meeting [approximately 1-hour]

The mentor and mentee will continue to meet regularly in accordance with the agreed-upon schedule.

During this one-hour virtual event, the in// border mentor coordinator will introduce the in// border mentorship program and the importance of mentors. Potential mentors will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves and ask questions about the program.
